Introduction

Adolescent Health Academy IAP (AHA IAP), established in 1999, is a specialty chapter of Indian Academy of Pediatrics dedicated to adolescent health care. It is a registered organization with 2000 members (as on 31st December 2019). AHA IAP has 2 state branches and 15 city branches. The head office and publication house of AHA IAP are situated at Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India.

AHA IAP is a multidisciplinary organization. The membership is open to all stakeholders involved in adolescent healthcare. A large number of AHA members are paediatricians with a postgraduate degree in Pediatrics and a few with a postgraduate diploma in Adolescent Pediatrics. Currently, physicians, nurses, psychologists, and teachers are affiliate members of AHA IAP

AHA IAP conducts the following activities on a regular basis in all parts of India:

  1. Training programs to build professional expertise in adolescent clinical care through workshops, conferences, and CME for health care professionals
  2. Community reaches out programs for parents, adolescents, students, teachers, social workers, and Anganwadi workers like life skill education, health camps, family life education, health awareness talks, vaccination camps, and school health programs.
  3. Scientific publications for health professionals and community education in the form of books, journals, training material, and handouts.
  4. Media related activities include the active participation of AHA members in radio, TV, social and print media to build awareness regarding adolescent health issues.
  5. Research in the field of adolescent health.
  6. Partnership and advocacy for adolescent well being at all levels- governmental and nongovernmental. Many AHA members are actively involved in international and national committees related to adolescent health care.
